    Matching Brick and Mortar

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could identify this mortar colour - I'm not expecting an exact match, just something close. It's for some minor patches so if I can get something pre-mixed all the better. Whilst we're at it (and less crucial) can anyone identify the bricks? The property was...

OSB on "cold" side of roof ?

Hi, I have a loft room with attic trusses, with fibre glass insulation in both the vertical and sloped bits of the roof. I'd quite like to add some OSB to the cold side of the vertical supports, so it'll be plasterboard, insulation, OSB - but I wasn't sure if the fibre glass insulation needs...

Swapping Euro Lock in "passive" side of PVC double doors

I'd like to swap the euro locks in a set of PVC double doors but upon further inspection it seems that on the passive side the screw to remove the lock is underneath the latch mechanism and can't be accessed. Will I need to remove the whole mechanism to swap the lock? Thanks

    Filling chased out backbox

Hi, Any suggestions on what to use to fill this back box? I'll probably have a plasterer coming over at some point to do the final coat but I'd like to get the big bits filled in first. Thanks

Building Control Regularisation - are changes to make it compliant permitted?

Hi, I understand if some building works don't have a completion certificate you can approach building control for "regularisation" which will confirm that the building works comply to the regulations at the time. I was wondering if minor alterations are permitted to make it compliant with the...

Can you "trust" an architect with regard to notifying building control etc about non-compliance?

The house has been purchased (well, final stages) with the understanding the loft room is non-habitable storage and might not be possible to convert economically. This was reflected in the purchase price. Mostly paranoia. I know that mentioning things can potentially invalidate indemnity...

Can you "trust" an architect with regard to notifying building control etc about non-compliance?

I'm probably being overly paranoid but I've been speaking with an architect about what changes would be required to get regularisation or building control approval for an existing loft room that was originally signed off for storage only, so it could be used and sold as a bedroom in the future...

Routing cables between floors inside stud wall, when stud is on a joist?

I need to run some cables* from a loft space, down via a stud wall to under the floorboards that make up the first floor. If the stud wall is sitting on top of a joist running in the same direction, how do you route the cables into the stud wall below? I figure the stud wall will likely be...
