    I've started drilling holes into new plaster and after about 300mm I'm hitting a metal wall or something metal (might have something to do with the conservatory doors) the plugs I have are around 350mm so I've ordered some more plugs to fit 300mm. Is there anything else I can do to get this up...

    Thank you both for your comments of help @Harry Bloomfield @opps I've managed to get them up, not the best of jobs as only one screw in to the joist but hopefully it should hold; I don't want to risk ruining the plaster!

    Thank you for your responses. There is this right underneath the light (pictured and circled) I believe is the joist? I'm not sure which way it is going across but would this be safe to drill into, and should I take any precautions before drilling?
