    So this is the switch, if I understand you correctly I should just detach the s/live cable marked with the blue X and attach it to the earth cluster circled-in blue. Thanks again for the really useful assistance.

    Ah, that could be a good solution just so that I understand correctly I should connect the end of the wire in the switch to where the Earth wire connected is and do the same within the new fitting so that effectively the wire is made redundant but no new connector blocks are required which...

    Thank you, the new fitting doesn’t have space to accommodate an extra block, may I ask what would be the issues with combining the live and the s/live?

    I’m replacing an outside light with a new smart light. The new smart light has connections for live neutral and ground in its connection box but when taking down the existing lights I see there’s a switched live (at least that’s what I think it is). I don’t need the switch on off function...
