Perhaps not, but it does satisfy my curiosity - nearly! This inline switch would be used as a secondary switch? It doesn’t need anything else? Or I guess it is an isolating switch as would break whole circuit?

Ah hmm yes hadn’t thought of that. Bungalow but there are two separate lighting circuits , both with lights in the same area of the house as the switch so definitely a possibility.

I have a switch that I don’t know where it goes, and the wiring inside confuses me. From what I can tell there are two cables coming in, but each has been kind of split in half. There is no break in the neutral, but the live for each cable has been cut and in one instance each half isolated...

Thanks, that’s really helpful. This is where I’m at so far - now down to the chalk so a bit harder going, but I’ve got under the existing slab so do I need to go down much further? I can’t see what base they used but now would be the gravel going underneath the old slab then build from there...

Ok connected them with a Wago and it is the switch. So that’s good to know. But I found out it is actually on a different circuit to the other two switches. Is that normal? Glad I used a tester first! Perhaps the heat was also from this failed switch. I’ll order the part and find out. Thanks...

Ok, I will check tomorrow what the load is. I wouldn’t have thought overloaded though. And it’s weird that it only started getting hot after the other switch failed. Unless it is somehow now carrying the load of both switches but I can’t see how that would be, especially if those lights don’t...
