    The bypass is a simple loop with a tap on it - not a pressure bypass. The tap is closed.

    I am certain that the microswitch/programmer/room stat aren't the problem. They haven't be altered and I can tell the pump is on, boiler is on and the valve is open but heat just isn't getting round the system.

    There is but it is now closed. The old boiler had a pump overrun but the new ones doesn't so it is not needed any more, I believe.

    Well, I spoke too soon. This morning - no heat, although the boiler and pump are on. I have just tried forcing water through each radiator in turn but from lounge to bedroom rather than the other way found like I did two days ago to see if that makes a difference, but I am clutching at straws...

    A big thankyou for everyone who suggested an airlock. I spent a couple of hours last night forcing water through each radiator in turn as suggested by @Harry Bloomfield . This morning I have a warm house! I will keep my fingers crossed, but it seems like that was the problem.

    Sorry, you are right it does have a microswitch. What I was confusing it with was the fact that the microswitch doesn't turn off the motor in the valve so it just sits there stalled while the valve is on. However, the microswitch definitely tripes, the pump runs and the boiler is on, and hot...

    The 2 port valve doesn't have a microswitch. Also, the boiler is definitely firing and pumping hot water - it just doesn't make it to the radiators.

    Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have a 3 port valve, it has two 2 port valves like this https://i1.wp.com/s1.manualzz.com/store/data/014547444_1-4f6a612d90096bed9e1eb528865f3fac.png?strip=all Honeywell V4043H. They have a manual over-ride lever so you can easily tell that they have opened...
