Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

Thanks for the recommendation, I'd heard of those systems before but had forgotten about them. Room temperature has improved due to the double glazing but the two rooms that are mainly affected - the lounge and bedroom - have heating problems. In the lounge we've blocked the radiator with a...

Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

The flat used to haemorrhage heat as it had poorly fitting large single glazed windows and back door when we moved in, which we've had replaced. That was my thinking re the vents, they seem to be adding nothing and we'd still have the option of venting the room by putting the new windows on the...

Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

Thankfully the kitchen is unaffected as we have a vented extractor hood and always have the window open when cooking or boiling the kettle. The bathroom's been another story, it's a small room but the extractor is at the other side of the room from the bath/shower combo and we had a big problem...

Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

Have just had a read about internal wall insulation - that's not really an option unfortunately, it would be a huge and costly job, though I'm sure it would solve the problem.

Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean the cavities need insulating, or we should paint them with insulating paint, or something else?

Controlling damp and mould - to vent or not to vent?

We live in a ground floor North facing flat and have a problem with mold forming on cold external walls and the nearby areas of ceiling. My understanding is that the way to beat mold is to keep moisture out of the air by either ventilating rooms regularly or using dehumidifiers, and to try to...

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

Thanks for your advice and it all seems sound..... I could take it elsewhere but it's hard finding someone who'll do an honest job and at least this place always tends to take the cheaper option. Wouldn't go back to my local Peugeot dealer as they tried charging me £650 for work that didn't need...

Just did this mate, both were equally cold....

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

The actual steering rack or the track rod ends? Is there any way to tell if that's the problem without replacing them?

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

Did wonder if some part of the calipers had rusted whilst it was sat on my drive for a month but the garage reckoned that they looked clean.... Think that the handbrake frees correctly..... it's the front discs that are warping though, doesn't the handbrake only work on the rear brakes?

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

I'd hope that they're replacing them.... it's a chain garage so the guy I deal with said that it makes no odds to him to replace them as he doesn't own the company so isn't losing out.... But even if they aren't replacing them, they've certainly fitted two different sets of new ones at least...

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

The garage is just replacing the discs but I think they tried the pads too originally.... I'll try and look back through the paperwork to check. I assume that they are checking the hubs as it's in their own interest to do so as they have replaced the discs for free a few times, but I couldn't...

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

Thanks for the reply. :) They just seized on the one time.... my power steering failed during a few weeks of heavy snow and I left my car sat on the drive for about a month until I could afford to have it repaired. When the discs warp there is indeed a juddering sensation when I come to...

Brake discs keep warping after seizure

My brakes seized up back in Dec 2010 and the RAC bloke unseized them by revving the engine and then letting the clutch out to give a sudden burst of power that unstuck the pads from the discs. Ever since then every set of discs I've had keeps warping. I've tried cheap generic ones and 2 sets of...

    Damp problem

Yes, the damp and musty smell was there long before the roof collapsed. We had the main roof of the house replaced and the roofers told us that the flat roof would need doing soon as well because the felt had bubbled and could crack, but that it was okay at the moment. We couldn't afford to have...

    Damp problem

No, it was a company who fitted the epdm and they did remove all wet boards and insulation and replaced them. No vents fitted that I know of. edit - I mean they replaced the plasterboard that was wet, no roof boards though. Even if that was the source of the damp, which I'm unsure of, would...

    Damp problem

Thanks for the replies. :) We just had a new epdm membrane put on the flat roof to cover cracked air bubbles in the old felt, and replaced the ceiling where it had caved in, and the insulation where it was wet. If the solution is simply to improve ventilation (house already has cavity wall...

    Damp problem

I have a problem with damp in one of our bedrooms. The room used to smell musty and things left in the room would start to grow mold. Last year the ceiling collapsed after the heavy snow, so we took the chance to redo the whole room, replace the carpet, etc. Now the room has started to smell...
