Thanks I'll try that. I should add that there is about 6 inches forwards and backwards movement of the rubber disc. It feels like it's dropped into a slightly wider section of pipe as I can feel resistance when I rotate the poles. There is another rodding point in the garden next door.

I recently unblocked our drain using the proper rods with rubber disc attached. Unfortunately four rod lengths in the disc got stuck and despite all my best efforts remains so. Apart from a potentially expensive excavation is there another option?
