    Blown Plaster

I've just finished stripping the paper in my hallway. Some of the plaster underneath is blown in various places. Is it advisable to pull off the blown plaster and re-fill in the holes, get a plasterer to fix the job properly or is it something i can repair myself? I don't want to have to...

    Coal (lots of it!)

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this message or not. I live in a 1940's built self-contained flat. At one point or other in the past there was an old coal fire, which is no longer here. At the end of the hallway I have a cupboard which has a chute coming in from...

    excess paint layers

Thank you for your reply :) It is 'just a case of old paint runs and gobby uneveness and the paint is generally sound' so I'll sand it as you suggest. Thanks for letting me know that satinwood is self-undercoating :) I've already painted all the other doors/wood in the flat with...

    excess paint layers

I am about to begin decorating my hallway (the last room to be done hoorah!). Having removed 4 layers of textured wallpaper some with glitter painted onto it i've got to prepare the doors/skirting for a new coat. From a brief look at some of the doors/skiring there is a layer of gloss...

    Laminate floor/underlay acclimatisation

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure how much they would expand in 24/48 hours and whether it would make any difference. Got 2 days off decorating now, so thanks :D

    Laminate floor/underlay acclimatisation

I have recently bought some Laminate HDF flooring (1285 x 192 x 7mm) and underlay boards (590 x 850 x 7.5mm). I have noticed that it says in various places that I need to leave the underlay in the room (unopened) for 24 hours to acclimatise and the laminate flooring 48 hours to acclimatise...

    Ceiling boo-boo!

Thanks for the information, if it needs washing/scraping off sounds like its less work to paint a new coat again and peel it all off! Good to know there is no lead or asbestos in it though :)

    Ceiling boo-boo!

it wasn't bare plaster, or a plaster skim, it had definately been painted pink! i just sanded down the ceiling cos it is quite old and had a few lumps and bumps on it and i wanted it smooth!

    Ceiling boo-boo!

Due to not being sure what the previous coat of paint was it was watered down 10%, on the tin I have it says it can be watered down to this far to ease application so I figured it would be ok as the undercoat. I just don't want the same thing to happen when I paint my other ceiling!

    Ceiling boo-boo!

I just finished decorating my sons bedroom. When we painted the ceiling we sanded it down and sealed it with watered down dulux brilliant white rich matt emulsion. About 5 mins after the ceiling was finished a few bubbles/flakes appeared and the whole lot of paint on the ceiling peeled off...

    trunking

the cable is twin one set of the 3 cables (E, N & L) are in the trunking coming from the twin plug sockets and the other 3 go into the wall. This may seem a daft question but who are building control and why do they need to be contacted?

    trunking

I plan to put my fridge and freezer under the worktops and if i keep the sockets where they are i will have to make a hole in the back of the worktop to fit the two leads (i figured moving the socket would be faily simple!)

    trunking

    trunking

In my kitchen i have a double plug socket half way up one wall in a moulded casing the type that sits as a box on the surface of the wall and looks horrible! Its about 4ft from the floor and 1ft from the corner of the wall. I would like to install a worktop so would like to lower the sockets so...
