    Plug socket with large terminals

Contactum sockets have nice large, round and deep terminals on them, they'll easily accommodate 3 x 2.5mm cables, 2 x 4mm etc. Still British made I believe and are my go to brand for white accessories when working to a budget. Normally I'd use Hager as they do look and feel more premium but the...

What's the easiest way of running this cable?

If damaging/repairing the external render is permitted then chase up from light A & B to the soffit, fish cable up from light A through soffit and down to light B and repair the render. Fishing the cable through the soffit might not be possible it'll depend on how its been fixed, you wont know...

Disconnection of kitchen plinth fan heater (Floor level heater delete)

Which is the same risk you have at present with the plinth heater sitting on the floor, many appliances in the kitchen make use of water, as long as you have the appropriate protection in place on the circuits then there is no issue with leaving the cable terminated on the floor behind the plinth.

    Cables in the loft question

I think your first course of action here is to offer for the builder to sort it out and engage a 'proper' electrician who will issue the appropriate paperwork or if they wont then you'll need to get your own electrician to quote how much it will cost to resolve and provide the paperwork and...

Tracing / fixing a damaged spur

It sounds like this is one of those faults where if you want the socket working you're going to need to get under the floor, in the loft and make a minor mess to resolve it. Those choc blocks need to be replaced with a more appropriate connection and enclosure, better still if the opportunity...

Tracing / fixing a damaged spur

Damn was hoping that would be the issue for you with an easy fix. As someone's already said it's probably fed from a junction box under the floor, is lifting the floor an option for you to investigate? I hope the enclosed the connector blocks they added in a box or something and not just stuffed...

Tracing / fixing a damaged spur

You mentioned the wall has been soundproofed, was that done whilst you owned the property or before? I'm thinking the socket position could be original to the house and when they soundproofed the wall the cables were not long enough to reach so they've used a junction box to extend to the new...

Replace a ceiling rose with 4 cables

Ah, you've fallen into the same trap as so many others on here, always take a photo of the wiring before disconnecting anything. The extra cable could be the feed to the external light, is this light quite close to where that external JB is located?

New HDMI cables causes loss of sound

These are my go-to HDMI cables: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004BIG55Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Never had an issue with that brand. For anything over 10M it's very hit and miss, very much depends on the strength of the signal being output by the device. For...

Easy DIY joining cable to Duralite LED rope light?

If you haven't already started modifying what you've had from TLC you might be best sending it back for a refund as its not really suitable for what you're trying to achieve without a lot of modifications and if water gets into your connections all the effort will be for nothing. What you need...

Easy DIY joining cable to Duralite LED rope light?

If you want to extend the cable between the control box and the rope light the only way you can achieve this is to cut the cable in the middle between the controller and rope light connector and extend it using suitable 3 core rubber flex (usually 1mm) and 2 x waterproof flex connectors. This is...

What is causing fuses to blow?

Very common occurrence on appliances where the flex is constantly well "flexed" in all directions where it terminates at the appliance or plug. Hair dryers/straighteners/curling tongs are probably the most common but I've seen it on vacuum cleaners too. Your extension lead will be fine, just...

meter board / fuse board broken and accessible by babies, how to have it repaired / replaced?

To the OP: If your children are able to touch that then you need to cover it immediately or keep them out of the area until WPD can attend. They wont move it FOC but they will repair it in the same position, however as you mentioned they have inspected and passed it previously they might levy a...

    New kitchen, power tripping

I'm afraid this person is not an electrician or an incompetent one if they are. There are only two ways of dealing with a socket that is no longer required: 1. Join through the cables with suitable connectors and fit a blank plate, if this isn't aesthetically pleasing then we move to option two...
