Can anyone explain what is the exact function of the anti-gravity valve situated near my boiler, and of the diverter valve inside the boiler? What symptoms occur if either is not working? May they be dismantled and serviced (or replaced) easily, Thanks

My central heating system has two settings : - 1) water only and 2) water and heating. The problem is both give similar unsatisfactory results. On water only - water gets warm, upstairs rads get hot, on water & heating - water gets tepid and all rads get hot. The only way to get hot water...

Various problems with CH - seem to be temperamental. First hot water only tepid, and now rads occasionally not heating beyond tepid. Am trying to find out as much as can about valves - diverter valve mentioned in other postings as poss cause.

Thanks for suggestions, Have tried half closing rad valves, don't have motorised valves, and not a combi boiler. Maybe the programmer? - any way of checking this?
