we have oil and lpg, the earth connection that i can see on the cold water pipe looks like 6mm and the earth in the consumer unit is thicker id say 10mm

Thanks crafty, yes its TT, but as far as i can tell nothing exits the house. Earth just appears on the consumer unit and seems to run around the house

yes i think it is - there is another switch in the room (that more than likely i will disconnect anyway as it serves little purpose in its position )

right thanks i will give that ago, there are actually 3 red and one switch live cable so that will leave me one red cable too many (using the ceiling swich cable only) I will give it a crack and let you know, thanks Steve.
