    Leak in conservatory roof

A few days ago, we noticed some drips on the floor of the conservatory. Not much, but if left it could damage the floor. This has only happened on a rainy day (obviously) but with a bit of wind. Can anyone suggest what part of the roof is likely leaking, and how best to deal with it? Some...

How can I stop children from climbing my wall and kicking my bins over?

I've had a better idea. Blather a load of anti-climb paint, then stick up a notice saying 'wet paint'. The yobs will think, "Ah, leave it. We'll come back tomorrow. It'll be dry then."

How can I stop children from climbing my wall and kicking my bins over?

Ah! Axle grease. A working alternative to anti-climb paint! I wonder whether some do-gooder would complain that you haven't put up a notice warning of axle-grease!

How can I stop children from climbing my wall and kicking my bins over?

Just another law applied by this useless government to encourage more crime, I suppose. Crime pays in broken Britain, or so they say.

How can I stop children from climbing my wall and kicking my bins over?

As a matter of interest, is it essential to provide a warning notice of the presence of anti-climb paint. I know the police aren't interested these days, but could someone file a legal claim if they get the paint on the little handy pandies?

What Do People Generally Do About Headlights For Continent?

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks. Typical bloody Napoleon, though!

What Do People Generally Do About Headlights For Continent?

You know, I do think that all European countries, in fact all throughout the world, should drive on the left as we do. Why? Well, this stems from Roman times when horse riders rode on the left of roads so that they could defend themselves (using their right hand) when approaching a rider coming...

Dangerous sparking from double plug socket - even when outlet switched off

Very interesting. I sometimes wish that I had taken up electrical engineering and become an electrician. Just a little worried about your user name, though.

    Rat or mouse??

Yes, quite probably. They do get around, you know. It'll probably turn up in your house tomorrow.

    Rat or mouse??

I have seen a rat outside in our garden, but hopefully as we have two cats, it won't venture into the house. There's the answer: cats, preferably two.

Please recommend me a suitable hedge cutter

Of course. Unfortunately, I haven't done a scientific gaugeable survey. Perhaps there may be some numerical information on their adverts.

Please recommend me a suitable hedge cutter

We got a Stihl HSA 56 Cordless Hedge Trimmer a few months ago. A little under £150. Works very well, including most branches except the thickest.

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Good advice. The wife tells me that her mother seems to leave the fire on for extended lengths of time. She (mother in law) is going a bit doolally into the bargain so, if it is possible, we could limit its output (if possible) or even replace it with one of lower power.

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Thank you. Yes, the extension lead will be binned, as the original plug of the fire is welded in it! There is no damage to the remainder of the lead of the fire, so I plan to attach a new plug of good quality. The electrician who examined it all will install a new wall socket closer to the...

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Ah, I see. I misunderstood. Like those sockets that can take American and Australian plugs, for example.

"Do not use an extension lead!"

But what plugs do they accept?

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Yes, our coiled lead has a thermal overload button and I think (without checking) is rated at 13A. When the wife goes over again and gets the electrician to add a new wall socket, I'll ask her to cut off the plug from the fire and bring back it and the extension lead. I want to try to get the...

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Yes. Exactly as I suspected. I might try to examine both when they have been replaced.

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I can understand that, although we have a fan heater which may be used with an extension lead, but this is not 3Kw and is only used for short periods under supervision. As I said earlier, if the cables are the same as the ones which would be used to extend a socket...

"Do not use an extension lead!"

Thanks for your advice. No, I know better than that and always uncoil the lead. In the case of the mother-in-law, it wasn't a coiled lead anyway.
