What is the problem when water leaks from the in - out lets on the pump? Thanks

We have just bought a shower pump from B&Q. We have fitted the shower pump and after a few days the pump started to make a very funny noise and a lot of water leaked from the seals on the pump. Could that have anything to do with air in the system? Or has anybody got another idea what it...
