Thanks for rapid reply Dave. Just a thought but i have not fitted any non return valves to either water supply, could this cause cold water pressure which is mains to force its way into hot water tank and up through vent into cold cistern or would this not be possible. Monobloc i have fitted...

I have recently fitted a monobloc tap for my mother she says that the tank overflow in the loft area is now overflowing. Could this be anything i have done or is it just a coincidence?

Tony. Yes the vent cap is loose it can be moved very slightly up and down.........

Many thanks for everyones advice, like you say may be airlock in boiler but cannot shift this and looking at boiler there seems to be no drain off or bleeding point anywhere. :( :?

F1 in manual says "ignition fault (lockout) failure to ignite. comments in next column say about gas flow, supply etc, but i have not turned gas off only turned boiler power off.

Only did this repair job on radiator for family friend, wish hadn't bothered now. Boiler was commisioned under two years ago and has two year guarantee with vaillant. Would a vaillant engineer come out for something seemingly as trivial as being unable to get this boiler ignited?

Nothing on this boiler, only one sliding switch off and on,one mode button in middle and two buttons either side all other modes are displayed on the digital display.

In reply to Scatman there seems to be no reset button on this boiler, manual says to reset by switching off for 5 seconds then switching back on. Have tried this numerous times and have left for longer periods.

The cap seems to be fixed correctly and not just loose. Cap is about the size of your finger end, would this be cap we are talking about?

Have unscrewed large chrome screw on pump and water came out, cant listen for air as the pump literally spins for 3 seconds before stopping. There is air vent above pump which is secure. Really dont know what else to try as boiler was working perfectly well this morning.
