    secure toilet pan

I am installing (diy) a 'back to concealed cistern unit' toilet pan. All of the plumbing is done and I'm ready to fit the pan. My concern is with regard to securing it to the floor, the pan has screw holes in the side. The concern is that the floor is a concrete base with underfloor heating...

    Two FCU's on a spur?

Doing some work (not electric) in my Daughters house which involved lifting the floor. I noticed that there was a 2.5mm T&E spur coming from a double socket on the ring main which goes to a 13 amp FCU, from the FCU to two double sockets, from the second socket to another switched FCU which has a...

old drywall walls with no studs

Thanks for your reply. Yes the rad is attached to the nightmare wall via cavity wall plugs, I was just wondering about options when fixing stuff to walls when this type of wet wall has been fitted; your broom handle idea is handy, thanks. I have never come across this type of wall before, must...

old drywall walls with no studs

This post didn't seem to fit any forum category so aplogies if it's in the wrong section. My daughter bought wet wall for hwr bathroom and muggins has been tasked to make it work! I'm not particularly happy with the wet wall as it is the hollow pvc type (pic attached) however, it's what we've...

    Outdoor underground cable

That's no problem. It is armoured cable for sure and the ducting runs to the house, judging by the position of where the duct finishes the direct line to the house goes under lawn/gravel driveway. The bit that can be seen in the pics is the end of the duct by the garage and the cable going to...

    Outdoor underground cable

Got a few question out of interest please. I have a detached garage about 10 metres from the house. There is an electric supply which is beneath the ground and I remember that there was a duct in place for this purpose as the house/garage was being built. I was never entirely happy that the...

    Thermostatic mixer shower cold feed

Thank you al for your replies. Yes there has been a 'normal boiler' pre combi all the old tanks etc have been left in the loft! Maybe an electric shower at one point. I'll just take the cold feed from under the bath via a service valve. Thanks again

    Thermostatic mixer shower cold feed

Thanks for your reply Chris. I was just guessing that the pipe circled blue was the one that went into the loft and to the cold feed of the shower as it seemed to be in the right place! I just can't understand why the shower cold supply comes all the way from the area of the boiler across the...

    Thermostatic mixer shower cold feed

Volunteered to fit my daughters bathroom as she doesn't have the money to pay a tradesman and as I had done similar quite a few times my name was in the frame! I have come up against something a bit confusing and I'd be grateful for some opinions please. On removing the wet wall and (apart from...

    Smoke/heat detectors again

Thanks for that. Yes I realised I only needed to run 3 core T&E to the first detector after I'd done it, I can still change it as the first detector is easy to access. So directly into the lighting mcb it is. Thanks for replying.

    Smoke/heat detectors again

Well I'm certainly not better than you but I take from all that, I won't be fitting a new mcb and so avoid the 'new circuit' malarkey. Thanks for replying

    Smoke/heat detectors again

I know this has been done to death but I have read so much conflicting info that I just have to ask, so I apologise for that. I have fitted 3 smoke detectors and one heat detector which I have interlinked and run the cable (1.5mm 3 core and interlink) to the consumer unit ready for connection...

    Bitumen shingles in colder weather

Thank you for your reply. One last question; is there an acceptable outside temperature that is generally acceptable to lay these type of shingles, at the moment we are about 14 - 16 degrees c. I may just try to see if I can get a roofer anyway as it's a lot of money to waste if I screw this up!

    Bitumen shingles in colder weather

No I won't be using a torch or heat gun on the underlay, just nailed down. My query is really, would a 'heat gun' help with the bitumen shingles after they are nailed; what stops the wind getting under them and ripping them off before the heat of the currently non existent sun sticks them down?

    Bitumen shingles in colder weather

Had a read through most of the forum and I'm still left with a question please. Log cabin with roof 12.8 deg pitch & 19mm tongue and groove roof boards. I have a bitumen underlay to go down onto the boards and my question is with regard to laying the hexagonal bitumen shingle tiles in not so...

damp proof on top of concrete

That makes sense thanks, I'll stick with dpc under the floor bearers then. This whole condensation/moisture thing is doing my head in, the more I read the more confused I get!

damp proof on top of concrete

Thanks for your reply. I have considered that also; my thinking with regard to covering the whole concrete slab was to eliminate any moisture from the concrete from causing problems to the wooden flooring or dampness inside the building. I'm perhaps being a bit OTT and I should stop over...
