What new boiler should I get?

We currently have an 10 year old Baxi Solo boiler which we acquired when we bought the house. We have had it serviced annually, but over the last 3 years have had just about every part of it replaced. At service this year we were advised it fails its emmissions test? and also that the burner...

    Holes in the walls!

Hi Have a couple of rather large and deep holes in the walls of our bedroom after new electric sockets have been put in. What can I use to fill them - they appear a bit big for Polyfilla, and I'm not sure about using that foam in a can stuff over wiring. Any suggestions gratefully received...

    Help needed drilling into walls!!

Its not so much a problem that I can't drill the hole, more that when I do it creates a huge hole as the wall starts crumbling. The drill has a good drill bit and definitely isnt on hammer setting. I thought I'd sorted it earlier - drilled the hole, put the wall plug in, but when we started...

    Help needed drilling into walls!!

Hi I just want to put up some shelves, but every time I drill into the walls it creates a huge hole as our walls are so crumbly. We have a 1930s brick built house. I have tried using much smaller drill bits than recommended, but even then the hole it creates is too big. Should I try...

    Painting MDF

Hi I am wondering what the best way to paint MDF is. Does it need primer/undercoat, or can I just get away with a couple of coats of paint?

    Central hating won't turn off

Thanks for all the suggestions. We got someone back to look at things and they reckon the valve is fine and that it is the PCB control?? in the boiler (a Baxi 2) which is the problem, causing the pump to override everything else. Does that sound likely?

Thanks - we'll do that as it should still be under a 12 month guarantee.

    Central hating won't turn off

OUr system has a 3 way valve (fairly new actually as we had it replaced in February not long after we moved into the house, after it short circuited). Is there any way of finding out if this is the problem, or should I get someone in? The problem seems to be intermittent - it has happened 3...

    Central hating won't turn off

Our central heating won't turn off when our hot water is on. To turn off the heating we have to either turn off the hot water, or turn off the boiler completely. Any suggestions>?
