    Slate tile patio

I have had a lok around the forum but the question is not really about laying slabs - I am looking at using slate tiles - these are thinner than a traditional slab so I am guessing that they will need a differnet base to ensure that they are well supported and fixed and not likely to crack.

    Tall kitchen corner unit

Hi, I am trying to plan the layout for our new kitchen and am having trouble finding the ideal unit. Problem is, we have a recess in a corner 900mm wide and 500mm deep. Ikea, do a 900x900mm corner base unit that will fit perfect. However, ideally we would like to fit a tall corner unit...

    Polycell Crack Free Ceiling Paint?

Have done a similar thing to you. 1928 house with original lath and plaster ceiling (I think), had textured paper on when we arrived. Stripped that off, filled the larger cracks, i.e. wider than hairline, sanded smooth and then painted a with polycell crack free ceiling paint. One coat was...

    Arsenic in soil

    Cable behind plasterboard

Forgive me people - but what seemed like a simple question has raised several more. The cable is in place, as it was before I did anything to the house - so whether or not it is in a safe zone would have been an issue for the installer. I will go for the earthed capping as that would be...

    Cable behind plasterboard

pbar - I am not arguing the regulation or the point of them or using my discretion as to what is or isn't a safe zone - merely stating the fact that I personally do not consider anywhere to be safe before doing anything - I don't know where the so safe zones are defined as and if I did I still...

    Cable behind plasterboard

Thanks for the replies. On the point about 'safe zones' and sticking a drill through at a later date... I will obviously know where the cable runs since I will be the one to cover it over - so to me that will be 'safe' - unlike the location of other cables in the house. I would hope that...

    Cable behind plasterboard

In removing extremely well attached tiles I have also stripped the plaster from the wall in my understairs WC. In doing this a cable running horizontally along the wall has been exposed. This was previously covered by a thin metal cover/conduit and buried in the old plaster. The cable is for...

    WC light switch

My understairs cupboard has been converted in to a WC by the previous occupiers, at present there is just a toilet in there, an orange one at that! I am going to replace this and fit a small hand basin at the same time - I don't like the idea of a loo with no hand basin. My question is...
