Are boiler fitters inundated with work?

Problem is, everybody wants something done for nothing. A lot of people think they can get a boiler installed for less than a grand. They think if they get a few quotes that they will vary vastly, but in reality they shouldn't. A decent boiler will cost around a grand to buy. add on any control...

Heating system corroded? Water is dark green and pump seizes

Sludge in a system is probably the biggest cause of CH breakdowns. Yes, it will cause a pump to seize, as well as any other moving parts. A system should only need flushing once, properly, and i'm finding it quite worrying that you're having it done a THIRD time! Either it is not being done...

    radiator cold at bottom

sounds a bit obvious but are BOTH the rad valves turned up fully. if so its either 1) kink or blockage in the flow or return pipework to that rad, 2)undersized pipework or 3) incorrectly confgured pipework-u shouldn't really be running a rad off another rad as u are asking for trouble, ideally...

    Boiler location

i agree-there is a reason why we have to re-prove our competence as gas engineers EVERY five years. this is the type of installation that we have to deal with day in-day out, where the only reason it keeps breaking down is because it is a poorly installed B&Q's finest. i really hope somebody...

    tanks in loft

your domestic hot water tank (the big one) can run for a long while after you've used a hot tap, it shuts off very gradually. Its also possible that the water valve is passing(you'll notice the overflow dribbling first thing in the morning if this is the case). the 3rd probability is that you...

Can a pcb be reconditioned properly?

another thing to consider is that even though problems like dry joints CAN be repaired, the rest of the board is still X years old and whats to say another component won't fail on it in a couple of months. i work for a BIG gas company and we do not use recon parts for that reason. my advice...

    Radiators will not turn off

first thing to do is check that the trv heads are screwed(if screw on types) tightly onto the main bodies, they can loosen and even though they appear to be turned off, still won't press the spindle all the way down, thus not closing off the water flow. there should be a (usually silver)...

    rendering denseblock

Hi, i'm new to this site. was looking for tips on rendering a raised garden bed wall i've just built out of denseblock. Its not a massive wall (20ft by 1.5ft approx)but a few pointers would be appreciated. The wall will be retaining soil for bedding plants so i was going to render both sides of...
