    customers that do not pay

look up Thomas Higgins on google. They will do you a 14day demand letter for £2 or something like that. That is usually enough to get a reaction if not look up money clain online and submit claim through the small claims court. you don't need a solicitor etc you just need documented evidence...

    F'in builders

hate to be the one to say it but its not worth chasing. What you will get through is a form to submit to say what you are owed this then gets added to the list of everyone else. Its a depressing process one where Customs and excise get first dibbs in the pot then the Liquidators take a...

    Feltless Roof

Its a catch 22, the roof is only a problem when the slates start falling off, if they haven't then its fine to leave it in the knowledge it will need doing at some point. a survey will pick it up to new buyers but if all the slates are in place and there is no leakage will only say will need...

    PLEASE HELP - Roof repair

you don't say exactly what the problem is but if you're looking for a simple re-roof of slate as they are suffering nail fatigue and the roof is not felted then the best option is to re-use as many of the existing slates as possible and replace any that need it with re claimed ones. This way...

    6.5m ceiling span

Its sorted, we're going to have a couple of oak trusses made to act as the roof supports and keep the roof open to the apex to give a barn conversion type feel so no worrying about ceiling beams. Took a long while to find a very simple answer

    Accountants fee for Tax Return

it sadly sounds like you've been stung. If everything was in a format whereby he could find your Income and expenditure easily then there should have been no need for much work at all. I run a ltd company on sage and we pay £600 a year and supply all the figures the accountant just does our...

    Plasterboarding on single brick

If its attached to the existing house then odds are it will get damp from condensation as the board being close to the single brickwork will be cold so you'll get mould growth. Is there any way you can insulate it? A lot of our house has been lined with insulated plasterboard and it seems to...

    6.5m ceiling span

certainly is we need to change the roof covering obviously and have got a solution to slate using the existing structure just can't seem to find a sensible way to add the additional support needed. Looking at the building regs document for a decked roof we need supports about every 2.2m on the...

    6.5m ceiling span

We're not going to use the space, all it has to do is keep the roof up and provide a surface we can use to put a ceiling in basically it will be a bit like a big bungalow. There will be no watertanks or even access up there. You see all shapes of roof but you don't see many like this, its...

    6.5m ceiling span

mm that's a lot of timber. Does it make any difference if the roof covering is slates so relatively lightweight? and does the size of the purlins make any difference as presumably these are just supports to the purlinsand sorry to ask so many questions but are we be able to get pre-fab trusses...

    6.5m ceiling span

ok getting somewhere now, how about ones made on site, basically the building we've got is far from square so the current roof is a bit of a work of art. Would we be able to put in enough trusses to have the same effect as using pre-fabricated trusses

    6.5m ceiling span

it does help to have background knowledge before you consult as so far we've used a few experts who have been utterly useless and have cost us a lot of time and money on this project so far. Look at it another way if we removed the roof alltogether and put in roof trusses which may not be...

    6.5m ceiling span

Basically i probably didn't describe it well enough but at the moment we have a lightweight roof that is decked with cut roof trusses spanning the 6.5m span These trusses are supported and its this room we want to open up and remove what we're guessing are supports for the trusses. The span the...

    6.5m ceiling span

I'm currently looking for solutions on how to support a ceiling and also add additional roof bracing in a building with a 6.5m span. Daihatsu fourtrack L reg

fourtrak is far better off road than a frontera, but what you really need to look for is rust. After that check it changes gear ok and that it brakes fine. Engines on them are pretty much bullet proof but they are decidedly agricultural to drive. Plus points is they tow anything pretty much...

Planning Application for building ext. without Architect

If you can get the plans drawn then do it, we've been stung badly with a useless architect and its actually got so bad that having got permission and Listed building Consent have found we have to re-apply due to the windows we intend to fit being slightly different to the plans submitted. All...

    chimney madness

best way to sort it is to get an insulated flue liner and fit that as a replacement chimney. They aren't cheap but you can run it straight out of the roof with the right fitting and they are the best way of making a log burner work as efficiently as possible

    Moss on Roof

I have to say we removed moss from our roof on the advice of a roofer, but it was old hand made tiles and apparently having moss on them keeps them damp which can lead to cracking during frosty weather. I'm not sure how it applies to newer tiles but guess the same may apply.
