    Shower pressure

It's a Devo bar shower. The hot has a valve just before the shower inlet. The cold has a valve on the cistern pipe just before its tee'd to the shower. But this doesn't stop the flow, I had to also stop the mains! Which seems bizaar.

    Shower pressure

Hi, thanks when I say first floor it's more an attic. Interesting point thanks, I have tried the head but as the pipes are old I do wonder about scale elsewhere. Not the best plumbing I've ever seen either.

    Shower pressure

Hi, I appreciate you responding. The bathroom is on the ground floor, tanks are on the first floor. I'd estimate the tank is approx. 2m above the shower. I don't believe the shower is fed from both the cistern and mains, but I do know that I need to isolate the cistern feed and mains feed to...

    Shower pressure

I know many questions have been asked about shower pressure, but here's mine. Hope somebody can help. My Mother lives in a bungalow and her shower pressure has got worse over time. I have replaced the shower mixer but it's made no difference. I have also tried removing the head and installing a...

    Plaster repair

Hi, I am looking for some advice please and will explain the best I can - photo quite tricky to do. I am decorating a bedroom which has a sloping ceiling. When the slope meets the main (flat) ceiling there is a hairline crack roughly 5mm from the corner, which is higher (approx 2mm) than the...

    CH not coming back on

Hi, My Mum's CH is misbehaving. She has a open, gravity system and pressurised bottle where I have checked the pressure, it's on 2. The CH comes on and heats the rads, but after an hour it turns off (I would imagine it's reaches the thermostat temp), however as the temp drops it does come...

    Hot water pump

Hi, I have a gravity fed system and the flow to hot taps is abysmal. I, therefore, fitted a Grundfos Home booster; there is a little improvement but not enough. My plumber said he could hear air going into the pump so I wonder if I've installed it correctly and if I need to fit a flange into...

    Rads - Horizontal vs vertical

Hi, I wonder if somebody can give me some advice, please. I have two horizontal rads in my lounge. The feed and return come from the ceiling as the floors are concrete. I want to replace these rads with vertical ones so I can lose a lot of the pipework - installing them close to the ceiling...

    Aladdin self bleed radiator valves

Hi, I purchased some Aladdin HV30c radiator valves. Do I need to remove the protruding white pin in the middle of the back of the valve. They look different than pictures on the Internet? Thanks.

    Floor levelling

Hi, Having knocked through two rooms my floor are not level - out by approx. 5mm. I want to lay new wood flooring so need to have floor levelled. I reckon 5mm x 27 sqm. What is a fair price for laying latex as I have been quoted £1200 plus VAT - what seems to be excessive? Thanks.

    Burglar alarm

Hi, thanks for your reply. So are you saying that I can turn off alarm siren when I open detector, but the controls will show tamper. Or I cannot leave open and turn off the siren? Thanks.

    Burglar alarm

Hi, I have a home alarm system, with a Scantronic 9425 - although I don't know if this is the actual model of the alarm system. I want to remove a sensor for redecorating, however when I open the tamper sensor activates the alarm. If I put back and use my user code it resets the system...

    I don't know, looks like a one-off special!

    Shower

Hi, I have a shower which is roughly 8 metres away from a show pump in my airing cupboard. The existing piping (22mm) goes up into the loft at which point it converts to 15mm and then to an ensuite. The flow is great, which I'm assuming is the result of the pipe 15mm constraints. I do not...

    Outside tap position

Hi, I want to fit an outside tap. The water pipe comes in from through the garage before getting to the CH boiler and taps. What I want to know is if I can position a tap before the boiler and rest of the house supply or will this cause contention and lack of pressure for the boiler (Combi)...

    Shower pump - flexible hose

I changed to a negative head and it resolves the issue. The furthest shower still is underpowered but works - I have to decide whether to change the 15mm pipe now. Thank you for all the advice - it really helped.

    Shower pump - flexible hose

Sorry for the delay and I appreciate the advice. So let me provide more information (which I should have done in the first place!). It is an existing system which has been there for a number of years. The additional shower has always struggled, the only way to get it working was turning up the...

    Shower pump - flexible hose

Thanks for your reply. It's 22mm from the tank to the pump. Then a length of 22 to the attic and from there the plumber reduced the bore to 15mm for some reason. The problem is the flow is strong enough to active the reed valve on the pump. By putting 22mm in I was hoping the flow increases and...

    Shower pump - flexible hose

Hi, I want to replace some 15mm copper pipe which runs across my attic floor (approx. 10m) for 22mm. The pipe goes form a shower pump in the airing cupboard to an en-suite shower. My question is can I replace this copper with a flexible Polybutylene? Is there any disadvantages and what do I...
