    pipe noise - question

Hello everybody I moved to a new Barratt house in August and since then I have been hearing an annoying tapping noise coming from the main drain pipe. It is obviously hitting a joist somewhere...Barratt came 4 times, they opened small holes trying to locate and stop the noise, mostly shimming...

    spur from smoke alarm????

glad I'm not the only one... all my ceiling roses look like this (with no earth cable) http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/nflash/Electrics/Rose/ClgRoseJunctTypeCopy.JPG I guess each switch is fed by a live wire

    spur from smoke alarm????

Well....all the ceiling roses don't have a live wire and there are no junction boxes in the loft. I just want to avoid the hassle of trying to route a cable down to a light switch

    cable from outside junction box

I have a BT socket in the dining room at the back of the house and one upstairs. I would like to have a socket in the living room at the front of the house. Can I use the grey (slide cover type) junction box by my front door and route a cable to the living room from outside after drilling the wall?

patching 100mm hole on bathroom ceiling

I'm replacing a bathroom fan with an in-line fan in the loft, therefore I'm changing the position of the fan on the ceiling. What's the best way to cover the hole left after I remove the old fan (about 100 mm diam)? Thanks Carl

    spur for freezer

forgot to say the socket is in a storage room next to the kitchen, so I understand there's no need to notify - can anybody confirm? I understand it has to be at least 450 mm from the floor but I fitted it quite low (right above skirting boards) does this matter?

    spur for freezer

Maybe a trivial question but I'm a total beginner...getting a spur from an existing double socket in the kitchen (not normally used). I'm using 2.5 mm cable, and a 13 amp socket (the ones you screw on the walls). Is this OK?

    light from fan live

OK, so I cannot use the smoke detector to get the live for my light bulb in the loft. ..Took that on board, but how about using the bathroom fan? It's got a timer so must have a permanent live. Is that ok? There are 3 wires there, black brown and grey. Which is the switched live, the live and...

    spur from smoke alarm????

Thanks for your input guys. I checked and the smoke alarms have a dedicated circuit so I'll leave it alone. On the other hand, how about using the live wire of the bathroom fan?

    spur from smoke alarm????

Just wanted to have a bulb in the loft but the only live wire up there seems to be the one going to a smoke detector. It's quite a thick grey wire so maybe I could cut it, connect another wire that goes to a switch and then up to a light bulb....What do the pros think????

    toilet 20 mm higher

The bathroom is upstairs, if I turn off the main and turn on all the taps downstairs that should empty the pipes. Failing that I'll use a flexi. The problem is that the pipe is so close to the wall that I cannot fit the pipe cutter...Has anyone ever tried an angle grinder???

    toilet 20 mm higher

Will be tiling the bathroom floor soon, and with plywood+tiles the toilet will be 20 mm higher. Can do the soldering work for the pipe to the cistern, but what about the waste pipe? I tried the original one (it goes straight to the wall) but there isn't enough play....Do they sell flexible...
