    Replacing ground floor pipework

Our house was converted from an old barn in 1986. The builder installed microbore central heating with the ground floor pipes buried in the slab. Unsurprisingly, we have just suffered a pretty major leak which drops the pressure from 2 bar to zero in 15 minutes. The walls in the area are...

    Boosting water pressure

Funny how often you post a question, only to twig the answer shortly afterwards! You are quite right, stardanny - of course it would! I blame the fact that I have been using unvented systems for so long! And no, coliholic, I wasn't expecting some kind of divine water heating! I think...

    Boosting water pressure

One for the plumbers out there! I have a 'standard' plumbing installation comprising cold water tank in loft, indirect hot water cylinder in (upstairs) airing cupboard and modern condensing gas boiler downstairs. I have recently renovated the bathroom, but many modern taps, especially...

    Low pressure Bath/shower mixer

Don't know if this will be too late for you, but 0.2 bar is about 2m head! 1 bar is 10m or around 32 feet of head, so you should be ok with taps that require minimum 0.2 bar. I have the same problem!

    Earthing in Spain

It's a very common occurrence out here. Most people living out in the sticks get this problem during very windy or stormy weather, along with dozens of 'mini-cuts' lasting from less than a second to several seconds. Really irritating! :?

    Earthing in Spain

It looks that way. :) Although there have been other questions on the subject that have attracted responses. It's not really so much a question of Spanish earthing, as earthing techniques in general. What I am really wondering is if there would be any adverse effect were I to earth the...

    Earthing in Spain

Would appreciate advice from an expert in earthing systems. My installation here in Spain is (I believe) a T-T system - overhead single phase power supply, only earth is at the consumer unit. This is a very good earth, connected to about 200m of reinforcing rods in the house foundations...

    Rather techy DHW question...

Have had another thought! What if I put in a bypass valve (not sure about symbol!), as below: This way, when the tank water gets too hot, the TMV shuts down the hot port, but cannot draw cold from the cold port, so the pump drives water through the bypass valve and circulates that...

    Rather techy DHW question...

An interesting idea Mark - but see my reply to Tony! Still, it's worth scratching my head about... Phil

    Rather techy DHW question...

A very good point, Tony! Certainly I have simplified things to pose the question and I will, indeed, be controlling the heat input. However, I am actually using a 'tank in tank' where the DHW tank is immersed in a bigger tank (1000 litres) which supplies the UFH water. In order to store as...

    Rather techy DHW question...

Sorry if this is a bit long, but... I am setting up a system which incorporates a recirculating DHW loop so that hot water is immediately available at all taps, but I've come up against a problem that I'm not sure how to solve. It is perhaps worth pointing out that I am based in Spain...
