    Help with my storage heater

Yep! That should be your cheapest option. Running the fan (boost - I think) won't use a lot of peak rate electric, but over use might mean you run out of heat before your next load of night charge. Running the fan & the instant heat (combi - I think) will cost you a fair bit, although how much...

    Help with my storage heater

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will give you a full answer, but I'm guessing this unit has 2 connections to the mains supply. 1 foe the economy 7 and another for constant power. The combi & boost functions will utilise peak rate electric to either drive a fan to increase the...

Glow Worm Ultracom 38cxi central heating problem.

Thanks Micky. Gave that a try as my total load is only about 9-10kw. Problem is when it first fires up it seems to still put out the full 18kw for the first 60 seconds (full flames shown on display). After 60 seconds it seems to drop down to the 10kw I've got it set at (max 2 flames) and the...

Glow Worm Ultracom 38cxi central heating problem.

Hey Switchmode, Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I've got the same issue on the 24kw version of this boiler. Mine seems ok as lonng as I've got the CH set above 70, but below that I seem to have the same problem as you. Watching it fire up I can clearly see it's going to overshoot &...

How do you know if a pipe is imperial or metric?

Thanks all! Will get an imperial fixing just incase it all goes wrong, but I'm 99% sure it's metric. Found a solder joint that I could access that looks to be on the same kind of discolored pipe with 15mm on it. Oh, and the other marking was >B< 864 (BS864) so all is well. Thanks for the...

How do you know if a pipe is imperial or metric?

The house is 150yrs old, not sure how long there has been a bathroom, but the existing one was fitted in 1986 I think (hence it's time for a change!). I just don't know if it was a suite swap, or full re-plumb, the the pipework could be older. No sign of anything suggesting sizes on any...

How do you know if a pipe is imperial or metric?

Thanks for the quick replies, forgot to mention it's 15mm / 1/2". I'll have another look for markings on the solder joints, not found any so far though.

How do you know if a pipe is imperial or metric?

Hope someone can help me... I'm trying to T in to these 2 pipes using speedfit. Bit concerned as to the colour difference though. The top one is hot (from tank) and the bottom cold (mains). Is it just condensation, etc. that has caused this, or could it be an older, & therefore imperial pipe...

    My new Bathroom

Harsh! Looks good to me! You'll always find something you could have done better once you finish, but I'd be more that happy if that were my bathroom!

Tiling over plasterboard, should I join at ceiling level.

I'm preparing a plasterboard wall to be tiled & tapeing all joins. Question is, do I jape the ceiling to walls? The tiles will cover the join, so is it better to leave the ceiling independent incase of movement? I've looked, but can't seem to find an answer to this. Thanks! - Sorry, just...

I want to use these too, but where can you buy them? Builders Merchants don't seem to stock them & the only place I can find online is PlumbWorld, £20 once you add the postage!!!

Soil Stack Access Point - Does it need expansion

Thanks for that. The bit of pipe between the access point and underground socket is 6". The 2.4m pipe in the top of the access point has 10mm expansion space at both top & bottom. This is why I was thinking the 6" pipe wouldn't need it as the above gap can take up any expansion. My concern...

I'm putting up a new soil stack. The layout is as follows: Underground Socket Plain pipe Access point (double socketed) Pipe (socket at top) 92.5 Tee for toilet (socket at top) Pipe (socket at top) Offset bends - pipe - vent Question is do I need to allow for expansion between the...

90 degree bend straight in to soil stack

Can a 40mm branch come out of the wall and more or less go straight in to the stack? As in there would be no horizontal pipe, just out the wall, 90 degree bend and then into a boss. Would movement cause problems? Thanks!
