Sorry guys, that last picture uploaded a bit small, I have made the writing bigger so hopefully this time it will be readable. Thanks.

    Boiler gone again

As quite a few questions have been asked about the tank, here is a picture of it with labels showing which bit is which. There are two pumps, the green one on the left feeds the boiler, and the red one on the right does the central heating system. The cap on the top can be removed and you can...

    Boiler gone again

Has anyone got any more suggestions? I don't seem to be able to find anyone who has had so many failures so I really have no idea where to look next. Thanks.

    Boiler gone again

Hi All, Most of the system is being replaced soon thank goodness, the other day another radiator pin holed, this one wasn't even being used as it is in the spare room and was turned off, that's all rads except one in the house dead. Hopefully all the problems will go away when its replaced...

    Boiler gone again

Here is a link to a pdf, mine is on page 3 called direct mainsflow. http://www.albionwaterheaters.com/pdfs/sales/mainsflow.pdf Interestingly, the diagram is misleading as to the height of the pipe connections, in addition mine has a removable flat lid unlike in the picture. Given the...

    Boiler gone again

Hi All, Thank you for your replies. The thermal store is an albion mainsflow contractor 210litre. There is no header tank in the traditional sense, the actual store is the header tank. Its about 1.7 meters tall, with a metal lid. Water fills the tank, which in turn directly connected fills...

    Boiler gone again

TWgas. Your right it doesnt make a lot of sense. If a sample was taken from the top of the tank, or the drain plug on the boiler the water appears quite clean, however when the popped rads were removed the water that came out of those was very brown and conatined lots of solid particles that...

    Boiler gone again

I paid, both times. The boiler was roughly 3 and 5 respectively. No boiler cover unfortunately. Failure description sounds about right, although there is not normally much sludge in the bottom of the tank when I drain it, there is often grit like material though (probably the remains of...

    Boiler gone again

The main one in the boiler, it looks a bit like a kebab :) The first one was corroded and had split with white stuff coming out the solit, the second one fitted in June was also corroded and split with white stuff, but didnt look as bad on the inside (at least what I could see through the...

    Boiler gone again

I thought I would revive this post to update what has happened since, and it aint good :( During the summer not that long after the boiler was fixed, I noticed the tank was overflowing (albeit very slowly). Upon investigation I found a tiny pinhole in the dhw coil, right below where the...

    Boiler gone again

The ball valve in the top of the store sometimes leaks and causes an over flow so I have a stop valve on the outside which I manually check periodically. It did lose water recently but of course most of this was on my lounge carpet! so at this stage it is hard to say how much is coming out of...

    Boiler gone again

Thanks for all your replies! To answer a few of your questions: This link should give you an idea about the system I have, it is a newer version but the priciple is the same. http://www.advancedwater.co.uk/header-012-088-MFDCYL.html The thermal store is essentially a 210 litre tank with...

    Vokera 24e hot water problems

Hi Sparky10, I could be off base here, but just out of interest if you run two taps at once does it stay hot for longer? One of my friends once had a similar issue and it turned out the pressure switch that tells the boiler you have a tap on was not opening correctly causing it to power cycle...

    Boiler gone again

Hi, Firstly appologies if this ends up a little long! I have a Worcester Bosh 24ri boiler which is connected to an Albion 210litre direct thermal store. They were both fitted around 5 years ago, and today I had to have my second heat exchanger fitted to the boiler, so I am getting through...

    Bathroom Waste Pipes

OK, so now I really look stupid. I dont thing the blimin thing is cast iron after all, it appears it could be asbestos. I dont know if you know any way to confirm this. If it is asbestos then drilling it would most likely be a no no right. Should I just remove it alltogether and get a plastic...

    Bathroom Waste Pipes

Sorry to sound dumb, but could you explain a chain drill. Having looked into it further, I think I am going to have to connect the bath shower and sink together, and run a 40mm pipe to the main stack, this will involve attaching it below the entry point for the toilet, thus into cast iron. I...

    Bathroom Waste Pipes

Great thanks for that.....I think I will try putting in an anti syphon pipe into the waste pipe above floor level. Since it is under the bath it will be hidden, and where it would meet the stack it is plastic rather than cast iron so much easier to work with. Thanks for the advice! :)
