Do you reckon that could explain why it worked for a while, then went back to where it was after a couple of days? I'm thinking maybe something in the diverter dropped out of place.

Could there be something still wrong with the diverter as he's used a kit rather than replacing the whole thing?

Thanks for your help, Dave. Yes, he did the boiler first, then opened up the rest of the system and flushed through that.

He's done so much stuff I'd forgotten that he'd had the heat exchanger cleaned. It's the one that's next to the diverter. He was saying something about another heat exchanger (the one over the top of the burners?) that could be blocked. Could it be that? Out of my depth now...

I have a Halstead Ace High boiler running twelve radiators. They heat the house very unevenly, and there are two radiators in cupboards (a bit unnecessary I'd say), so I'd like to fit Thermostatic valves, and remove the two offending rads. Is the best method to drain the system down entirely...

I would like to desludge my heating system, but I'm not quite sure how to go about doing it with a closed system. How would I go about getting the chemicals into the system? Do I need a pump, or some other bit of equipment?

Thanks very much for the tip about turning the pressure valve a few times, it seems to have worked perfectly and valve has clicked back into place. The problem is much better, but I'm still getting a little water dripping from the automatic air vent. It looks like a nightmare to replace, so...

Thanks very much for that, replacing both seems like the best bet. If I were to replace the automatic air vent, would I need to set the pressure using a gauge and a pump as I've seen mentioned elsewhere on this site? I think I may have got confused between automatic air vent and expansion...

The boiler concerned is a Ferroli Optima 701. After fixing a leaking pipe, I've refilled the system but it won't maintain pressure. Having checked things out I realised it's the pressure release valve has got jammed open when I repressurised the system, and I was about to go out and buy one...
