    Raising Floor for Temporary Structure

Hi All, I'm looking at building up the floor height for a film set and was thinking of running beams across the floor, something like 75x150 though I haven't decided yet. Then running the next layer at right angles to it. Assuming the top layer is around 400mm spacing between beams to...

    Sliding Doors, ala Star Trek.

It's for a set rather than a house. Those pocket doors look interesting, although the mechanism still escapes me. :s I think it's going to be cheaper if I make it all from scratch rather than buy a pre-made set, but their frame designs look a good place to start.

    Sliding Doors, ala Star Trek.

Ok, I've got to build the mechanism for some sliding doors and I can't get my head around it. I figured I'd lock the two wood pieces into some kind of frame and have a curtain pull string style thing going on, but in my head I can see it all falling apart the first time I touch it. Also I'm...

    Angles...angles...angles!

I did some looking about Fibrous Plaster, it looks like a kind of Plaster of Paris thing? Using moulds and such like, but correct me if I'm wrong. Is it better for detail rather than wall sections?

    Angles...angles...angles!

So just a block of wood with an angled end...hmmm. Never thought of that. Yeah, the beam is on the unseen side, so it doesn't matter whats there. As for the 25mm boards, the cost is paramount at the moment, so I need to decide whether it's cheaper to get thicker boards, or ge thinner boards...

    Angles...angles...angles!

Shucks, that's what I'm afriad of. I've got to build the whole thing within a certain amount of time, and to a point where it'll look passable on HD. It's going to be 6mm or 9mm hardboard sheets screwed to a 75mm x 50mm x 3m virtical beam. Like you said, it's probably going to be something...

    Angles...angles...angles!

Ok, I've reached something of an impass. A single virtical beam with two boards attached to form a corner. My problem is trying to attach a board when the angle is greater that 90 degrees. Other than trying to shave off a couple of degrees from the angle of the beam, I'm not sure how to...

    Right Kind of Wood?

Hi, I'm wondering what kind of wood I'd need to bend around the inside of vertical beams set in a circle about 2m in diametre. Cheap and cheerful, it's not gonna be up for more than 7 days. Any recomendations? top down view... Ta. John.

    Roof Dilema.

I'd love to, but I'm afraid I've not got the budget to do it that way, although it'd be nice. Anyhow, I've got a campus full of 3D & Film students here. ... Just to clarify too, the roof/cover isn't part of the set, purely just to keep the rain off. ... Here's another problem if anyones...

    Roof Dilema.

Hehe, I had a look at the air domes, they're a little out of my range at over £2000, and I'm crap at CG so thats out the window!! And following the death of my last module the less greenyscreeny i do, the happier i am! Think i might just buy a marquee! Or maybe a circus tent...?

    Roof Dilema.

Ok, so woods out of bounds for something this size... As for planning permission, the University is dealing with that. There dealing with the legal side of it all and I dont see a scrap of paperwork (think i might have the better end of the deal here...) The structure only has to be up...

    Roof Dilema.

That grid shell looks nuts... and expensive. Maybe woods not the answer, gotta think a litlle simpler. Thanks for the advise. J.

    Roof Dilema.

Hi, I've got a 20mx20m area 3m off the ground and I need to make a roof for it. The size can't be changed. It can't be supported anywhere in the centre, but as many supports as I like on the perimeter or further out. It has to have a slight angle on it to let rain run off, and has to be...
