    :wink: Ok....I've turned the freezer back on - having let it stand for 48 hours. So far 'normal' freezer hum. Should I just leave it as it is..or set it to Fast Freeze? I've put small bowl of water inside.

    Many thanks. Not heard the 'glugging' noise any more..just a very load 'motor' buzzing sound. Using the dial on top of the freezer (where you can turn it from 'off/ minimum / medium /maximum/fast freeze)..I turned it 'off'..back on again..and for 10 minutes it was silent like it used to...

    Ah! Now it is frost free BUT exactly 24hours after I noticed the red light was on ie 1.00am early hours of this morning - the red light had gone out. In the meantime I'd borrowed a small chest freezer and moved all food in to that - icecream..bread had completely defrosted so were binned...

    IT'S WORKING!!!!!!!! Great big MWAH to all who have given me help and advice!!! When I took front off of storage heater and removed the bricks..the original element was black and a bit 'rusty' to the touch. I was a bit concerned because where the two prongs of the element go into those...

    :wink: OK I've ordered both parts...cutout order number XL9701...and element is XT8321. Should be a couple of days before they are in. As Arnie says...I'll be back! :lol: (Should it be easy for me to fit them? Looks like just two terminals on each part :? )

    :roll: At last....a reply from him! He said :... 1. There is no reading from the element. 2. There is no reading from the cutout. 3. It IS an open circuit but there is power at the base. Hope that means something to you all! :wink:

    :lol: Me Again!!! Lad has just rung to say he has put the meter on the cut out...and there is no reading. He also put the meter on the element...and that was very minimal. Should I therefore try and order both the cut out and new element? Thank you!

    :cry: Nope....hasn't heated up. I'll copy and print out the meter readings and try and get hold of neighbours son to do a test. I've found out that the part number is XL9701 and approximately £11.96 plus VAT. Should I just go ahead and replace or do the meter reading test first? ((shrug))...
