    Sorry missed it.

Can an electrician swap my MCBs for RCBOs?

I find the whole debate about plug in solar a bit pointless. We already have plug in solar, we already have grid tie solar, and we already have balcony solar, but they are not permitted to back feed into the grid, the inverter/battery pack often has provision to fit solar panels, it grid-ties...

    Evolution circular saw

I have done it, while waiting for a new switch, but clearly not the best quality switch as it has failed, so suppose should not really do it, however likely has a double pole switch for use in countries without a polarised plug.

    Deta ceiling roses

For a table lamp or any lamp children can play with, good idea, but for a ceiling lamp, they do seem OTT. I can unplug my ceiling lamp so there are again no live terminals, but really got so I could wire up on the floor, then plug in ready wired.

Wall radiators – worth fitting or outdated?

In the main, we balance installation cost with performance. But reaction time can be important. So two ways to heat a home, 24/7 or as required. We hear arguments for both, but I go for as required, this means time taken to heat the room is important. But also the space taken by the radiator is...

    Strip lights

The light seems to be an emergency fluorescent fitting which has been converted to LED, the fluorescent needed a high strike voltage which can damage LED, and most conversions were designed for wire wound ballasts not electronic ballasts, as the electronic ballast made the fluorescent nearly as...

Change from System and tank to Combi

Does the shape matter? I wish I could get my head around that. My house, living room has two radiators of around 2 kW each, what ever boiler I have, can't see it modulating to 4 kW. So boiler works on a mark/space ratio. Now mother had a boiler with a reservoir built in, so it did not...

Place to wash clothes, washroom, utility room, kitchen etc, and why?

Likely the biggest understatement. I have seen homes where the central heating is split, upper and lower floor, seems so short-sighted, as we found children would use bedrooms as an office to do homework, or a dinning room would not be used for years, so the design needs to allow for change over...

Change from System and tank to Combi

I now have solar panels, and an off-peak supply, so using the immersion heater is much cheaper to using in my case oil. So I would question if getting rid of the tank is a good idea.

Can an electrician swap my MCBs for RCBOs?

The installation certificate is nearly the same as the electrical installation condition report, but the installation certificate can only be issued by the person in charge of the work being done. So safety wise should be no change. As yet no one has a clue, the details have not been released...

Place to wash clothes, washroom, utility room, kitchen etc, and why?

My great aunts, grandmother even with a two up two down house had an out house to do the washing in. As to why, I guess down to firing the boiler, and not wanting coal smoke in the house? But by time I was a boy, the gaslights still on the wall but not used, and still a hatch at the end of the...

iboost+ seems a little odd, when I think it is switching on, but could be OK!

I suppose with electric resistive heating it does not matter if the slewing range of temperature is 0.1ºC, 1ºC, or 10ºC. With something which needs to warm up first, be it gas, or oil or a heat pump, then we want a large slewing range. My beer brewing thermostat can be adjusted in the range of...

    3 CU's

I was looking at the fees charged, although what is changed it not what is paid, I know 1985 my time charged out at £25 per hour, but I was not paid anywhere near that fee, it was all down to the cost of getting us there, and accommodating us while there, so maybe Kent is some third world area...

    Poor hot water system.

Question one has to be where does the water come from? I know here in Wales may homes have a well and a pump.

Can an electrician swap my MCBs for RCBOs?

MK is an expensive make, so swapping the MCBs for RCBOs and getting a new bus bar kit, will likely cost more than a new Fusebox consumer unit populated, specially when you look at the price for the surge protection device.

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

I still can't see how any plug and play kits can be marketed in the UK when we don't as yet know what standards they need to comply to? How will any company be able to ensure the kits will conform to the rules, and they will be changed within the 90 days? I look at my own solar, and how my bill...

I remember snow in Hassi'R Mel on edge of the Sahara in Algeria, so much it was stopping the 583 cats from moving, then the sun came out, and we were sun bathing again.

Thank you. Seems mine doing as one might expect then.

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Since my 6 kW of panels face west, panels facing south likely do better, but I can read the years' performance. So if 6 kW produces 6 MWh the 800 watt likely around 800 kWh per year. Money wise it depends on the rate, I expect most would be exported in my case so 800 x £0.12 = £96 per annum. If...
