    Upgrading to Vista from XP

The only reason you would want to stick with XP is if yo are a business user with a significant investment in software such as Sage etc. Upgrading to Vista will be expensive because the user would require new versions of their software. Vista has been completely rewritten. The coding makes...

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

Good point Chris!! The motor was moving it turns out, just VERY slowly when switched to heating. It moves very quickly to water side but I think this is just because of the spring. The motor was VERY hot though so I swapped it for a new one and all seemed to be fine. I thought I had cured it...

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

Right, well it isn't the room stat!! I've changed it for a new one. Going to swap the clock now. Old one was a Potterton EP2001. Looks untidy anyway, PIA job though because the backing plate need swapping too :-(

    Vectra or Focus

What a 407 with the 136HDi engine. I've had one from new and it fantastic, brilliant handling (chassis dynamics are as good as a Mondeo), very comfortable, lots of toys, decent boot, 50+ to the gallon if a girl is driving ;-) 37 even when I'm driving (and I don't hang around.) Just had it...

    super charger & turbo?

Turbo chargers generally don't make much difference until the engine is spinning pretty quickly so turbo charged cars can suffer from "Lag" where you get all the power in a bit lump. Superchargers work in a way that lets you get the power much lower down in the rev range and then delivers it...

Peugeot 406 Diesel Estate T reg - airbag light

I used to have a 406, the air bag liht coming on is a comon problem. There is a switch in the seat so that the system knows where people are sat. If the wiring comes loose/iunplugged/moist it display the fault light. Have a good check around under the drivers seat and make sure it all good.

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

I don't think its the valve head, I took it off last night and got the Mrs to switch controls on and off and the valve works fine. Only time it did nothing was when the heating only was called - it didn't move at all then. Its definately an electrical issue and it sits with either the clock...

    Upgrading to Vista from XP

Go for the full version, Vista is fantastic, extremely stable and a lot safer than XP no matter which service pack is loaded. It supports Directx 10 which is absolutely stunning with a graphics card that supports it. The reason I say get the full version is that the upgrade can cause...

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

If the heating is the only bit switched on at the clock nothing happens at all. Everything is dead.

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

Sorry!! Yeah, I can make the whole system work perfectly well by turing up the water thermostat or the boiler thermostat. The motorised vale is cycling properly. The problem seems to be that the water stat is shutting down the boiler irrespective of what the room stat it telling it!!

    norton security

Kapersky is very good, but the Norton 360 is completely rewritten and is significantly less demanding on system resource than the Internet Security package. It can also be installed on 3 separate machines (not one machine 3 times!) Buy a Mac though and you con't have to worry about any of it!!

    Little green arrows.

Right click the connection and select properties, there will be an option there sonewhere to put an icon in your tray. Failing that just reinsatll the software and it will probably appear by default.

    changing default browser TO IE

I can't remember where to find this on XP but on Vista it is on the start button list above the shut down button. There is a settings page called "Default programs." Change internet browsing to IE in there and it should be fine - its easy to do!! In XP it was accessible through the start...

    Potterton Netaheat Profile problem

Hi guys, I moved into my house 18 months ago and the central heating system has worked perfectly during that time. The house was built circa 15 years ago so I think the boiler is the original one. Yesterday when I got up I noticed the house was very cold - the central heating wasn't...

    Ink cartridges

Don't use compatible inks if your printer is under warranty - it will invalidate it. Epson spend more money develping ink than they do on the printers and printing themselves. The compatible stuff isn't made by EPson, or sold by them and it WILL ruin your printer. The carts for this printer are...
