Well I am impressed, the nice BG man fitted a new pump (it is blue and is a grundfos pump)! He fitted a valve above and below the pump becasue water leaked everywhere when he took the pump out! Heating is firing up fine for now... so fingers and toes crossed! Thanks to EVERYONE for...

Pump is blue.... dont know the make yet! He said he is going to change all my valves as well.....??

Well as I type BG are in the airing cuboard with a blow torch on the pipe directly above the pump.... I think he is going for a pump change! There is a brown box on the stairs as well... I reckon its a new pmp! Power flush has not been mentioned as yet!!!!!

Spoke to an old chum of mine who works for BG on instalations, he says no way does it need a flush... reckons with my 10mm pipes the flush will do more harm than good. He has told me to tell the BG engineer to check the cold water flow from the loft? And almost certainly demand a new pump...

Your right it is a DAB pump.... did not think I had mentioned that! I actually have the insurance.... costs about £200 a year inc a service and covers pretty much everything.... but a power flush! I will let it cool off and give it a whirl then.

Several times now I have undone the big screw on the pump, it has hissed and steamed, banged and crashed so I have tightened it up again, as yet I have not taken the screw out completley, I aleady have burnt hands from the hot water! But after I have carried out the above, I can get the...

Good suggestion re feeling the middle of the rad.... if only I could get them hot!

I guess I know what you are saying! Cut off switch has popped back in... rads are warning.... but not for long I guess! The pump is a DAB and looks old.... Think BG are out on Friday, I shall see what he says to fitting a new one! Also in the airing cuboard are 2 things that "look" like...

Cut out switch has popped back out again.... wont go back in at the moment either. Released the big screw again, lots of steam and hissing, tightened it bavck up again.... you could hear a wheel moving. The black water started running clear. Looked in the loft... not for too long as I dont...

Quick progress report.... Eventually turned the big screw on the pump (by the way, there is no way that pump is new), then there was a lot of hissing and clonking and banging! Black water came out.... although black it was thin if you get my meaning.... it then sounded as if water was running...

Does the clear water from the rad I just bled tell you anything.... or not??

The rad near the front door has a chrome thingy pointing downwards like the chrome one in your picture above.... accept mine points down and your is at a slant! Just before Xmas BG had to change a constantly leaking joint on that rad near the front door, he ran a hose from that chrome thingy...

Dont feel overly confident in stripping the motor just yet.... plus its bloody hot! Eventually found a bleeding key, bearing in mind the system is cold and not running I tested a rad in the ensuite and the water came out straight away.... no hissing just came out like a tap.... not spirting...
