I was thinking of changing the MR16 downlighters in the bathroom with GU10 mains voltage LED downlighters. Before I get an electrician I read on another site that this is against current building regs....is that right?

For anyone who searches and reads this post......the problem was a faulty MCB switch. Even the electrician who replaced it said its very rare, but that was the issue. Thanks for all the advice especially JohnW

I've now had a electrician do the relevant IR tests. He at first viewing the wiriing he said that he thought the fault would be that the wire was not the correct size....but after doing the tests he says the wire, although not giving the best results was doing the job and is not the issue...

I'm hoping JohnW is about, or someone who can help. In regards to this problem would the wiring being next to a central heating pipe be causing this issue?

I have visually checked the length of wiring as well now and can find no issues. Decided to change the isolator switch (again!) this time for a 50amp MK. If issue persists after this will call in an electrician (again!) to check and maybe change the MCB.

Hi Dave, Just to clarify: 1: Shower turned off at unit - then pull switch turned off = tripped by next time pull switch is turned on 2: Shower turned off at unit - pull switch left on = trips (sometimes 1 hour plus later, sometimes doesn't trip)

Yep John...thats the case. Turn shower off after use all OK...then sometime during the next 24 hours it will trip, and I have to go to cupboard to reset. For example after two showers Tuesday morning didn't trip at all. Two showers this morning all OK hadn't tripped during the half hour before...

****EDITED**** I can confirm that the shower is tripping during times when it is off.....sometimes hours after it been used. Not tripping when switched on and not tripping when switched off. Nobody is manually switching it off as it is in a locked cupboard outside which only I have access...

Just one last thought on this...... seeing as it seems to be tripping between the isolator switch (regardless of it being on or off) and the MCB could there be a problem with condensation with the MCB box being outside in a meter cupboard? It may just be coincidence but tripping events...

Is replacing the MCB a job for an electrician not recommended for Joe Public?

The switch that trips is the one stickered "Shower Supply" Switch stickered "RCCB" stays ON
