    Ignore last post. Realised that the positions on the new switch C L1 L2 are in different order! Swapped round and all working well. Romantic though it may seem, I much prefer having a shower under my lovely downlights. Thanks for listening. Amelia

    In trouble............... Finally managed to get the old switch out. Have got the new one in place but it doesn't work. No fan or lights. Any ideas? The new switch does not have the metal piece on it but everything else the same. Old one in situ and with knob and cover removed...

    Sorry - Problem! Now I've unscrewed the metal case (because I couldn't get the switch out) I can see that the switch was never going to simply pop out. It's way too big to come forward. See pics. The fan switch next to it is so much smaller. I can now see it's a 500w dimmer. I...

    Advice re replacing grid dimmer switch please

    Thanks guys for your comments. I am going to make it my first New Years Day job tomorrow! If I can't get the dimmer out I guess I will have to give up and call the electrician. If I can I will order a Richmond one once I know what I want. Presumably there is some kind of label on it somewhere...
