    I have softwood single glazed window frames ( about 25 years old ) in a very punishing south facing elevation and the putty shrinks and cracks a lot, on the bottom bead particularly, and needs replacing.     Radiators will not bleed

    I have tried this this evening. When I loosen the square head on the drain cock the water pours out from around the thread .....challenging with the fitted carpet! ....how do you stop that so the mains pressure does its job and re-fills the system?

    Jamie, many thanks, I have just 'rodded' the line as far as I can from the exp tank without any success! Must be further down .....looks like it joins the large diam pipe at the top of the heating coil in the HW tank? Nath ...again thanks. I think the system is too ancient for a auto vent...
