    Flathead Drillbit

Hi there I'm trying to take off of our external masonry wall a metal box. The screws are fairly large and have been in the wall for +30 years. They are drilled in without raw plugs. Using a Bosch hammer drill (rather than electric screwdriver) I have managed to get 2 of the 4 screws out...

Thanks - yes with our one it is coming up off the vertical rather than out of the wall/ceiling. Thanks!

Hot water in taps but not in shower

Thanks that's helpful. Yes it has a vertical riser going into a rain head. I will check the inlet filters and as we have got a shower pump will set if it has inlet filters that are blocked. As you say I'm expecting it might end up being a full replacement - let's see. Thank you!!

Hot water in taps but not in shower

Hi there, I've got a gas boiler (and hot water tank) - I've been finding in the last few days that the shower temperature is lukewarm (despite turning it to try and make it warmer). However, the taps around the house are still running hot - so I don't think it's a boiler or hot water issue -...

Insulating Garage Wall - Connected to Bedroom

Hello, we've recently had cavity wall insulation and loft insulation put into the property. However, we have one bedroom upstairs which is connected on one wall to the garage. The room is about 2-3 degrees colder than other rooms which we think is in part caused by the fact that the wall has no...

Curtain Pole Holder - What is this and where can I get it?

Hi there, I need to put up a curtain pole - but I'm missing one of these attachments which screws into the wall. Any idea what it is called and where I can get one - I can't find one on eBay but I'm probably searching for the wrong thing! :) Thanks!

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Unfortunately not making a huge amount of progress. First photo is from the top, second photo is from the side (unfortunately the side of the handle doesn't come off) and the last is from the underside. I'm convinced it's the underside which should unscrew and open the fixings but I'm...

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Great. Thanks. Yes, they are under the hot and cold arms of the tap. I'm out at the moment but will have a look when I get back and take some photos. It definitely different to the photo above.

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Thanks - unfortunately there's not a cap which unscrews. I'll have another go at removing the brass spindle.

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Thanks. Yes, I can't seem get the grub screw off underneath. None of the Allen keys seem to bite to be able to remove it. Any other thoughts?

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Thanks. Have got the handle off but there are no caps at the end of the tap. There's space for an allen key underneath but it's not getting the tap off. Any thoughts?

Dripping Tap - Can't get tap off

Hi there, We've got a dripping tap - hot water (so left hand side). There's a space at the back of the tap for what looks to be an allen key but none of the keys are turning it in a way which I can get the tap off. Unfortunately I think we might be looking at a replacement tap. I want to...

Stacked Vent (Toilet) & Extractor Fan Vent

Hi there, We've got a stacked vent in our roof which I'm told is for the toilet in the upstairs bathroom. Our bathroom doesn't currently have an extractor fan - we are putting one in. The plan is to go up and out of the roof. Am I right in saying that we will need a separate roof vent ie does...

    Insulate a Fireplace opening

Hi there, I'm thinking about insulating my fireplace opening - a few people have said it might be worth doing. It's a fairly largely opening (see photo below) and we were wondering about doing it onto the back wall and side walls. We don't want to take out the woodburner though - so would need...

    Loft Insulation Material

Hi there, We've just moved house and I'm about to sort loft insulation in the property (it's between the joists but not across - and certainly not up to the 270mm we want to aim for). A couple of questions if that's ok: 1. Any suggestions on which type of loft insulation? We are looking at...

Modulating Gas Boiler and Smart Thermostat

Interestingly, just had a response from Worcester Bosch: "As a regular heat only boiler the RI will be typically installed on a zoned system to provide heat to the heating/cylinder circuit. These systems are wired to provide a 230vac switched demand to the boiler and so the Bosch Easy /...

Modulating Gas Boiler and Smart Thermostat

Hi there, We've got a fairly old(ish) boiler installed in 2012 - a Worcester Bosch Greenstar Ri: https://www.plumbase.co.uk/link/1/h016641_28413_t.pdf Manual seems to suggest it's a modulating boiler presumably using the EMS bus language. I've been researching about modulating vs on-off and...
