door frame jamb askew repair

Ever since I was robbed, my back entry door jamb leans in to the house on the top hinge side and out of the house on the bottom hinge. It's not much, about 1\4", but enough to where new casing won't lay flush. Can I use a rubber mallet and piece of wood to tap the jamb back into place?
