Following a post I made this morning about being in a slight road accident (hit from behind) I wanted to gauge your opinions on accident claims (and the companies, motives etc)
Loads of people I have spoken to today about the accident have been telling me to claim for this and that (whiplash, trauma etc) but I just don't agree with this at all.
The impact took place at approx 10mph and as I pointed out in said previous post, I have been hit harder by my 2 year old son when we play "rough and tumble".
Are we really a country so Americanised that we want to sue everyone for everything or can't we just revitalise that quintessentially British value of "well it happens"?

Don't get me wrong, where actual harm or malice has taken place I believe that there should be a compensation system available. But should it just be the norm to go after other people's money?

Regardless of the outcome of your prang this morning, I can't help but feel that you should sue your son for damages

I can't help but feel that his wealth stems from mine therefore would be better just to sue myself...
Hmmm, I wonder if anyone has tried that. Probably some American soul has.

Problem with this country is we follow Americans and always want to blame someone else instead of accepting responsibility for our own actions.
You trip over a 1/2" raised paving stone and graze your knee then you should have been more careful. If I was a judge and this came before me I'd throw the case out and fine the solicitors for time wasting. What do our wise men in wigs do? Reward someone with vast sums of money from the public purse and so deny kids/pensioners some vital necessity. Pillocks!

Rant over??

I'm actually quite pleased to see that, although the volume is low in votes, there is a definite aura of common sense shining through.
