I have just installed 12 selv down lights in my kitchen, bulb rating 50 watts. When they are all on together, along with other lights around the house there isnt a problem, however when I turn the outside halogen light on the mcb will trip 20 secs later. I worked out the total power consumption of when all the bulbs are on, and came up with a figure of 8.4 amps ( using simple ohm's law ). The MCb for the downstairs lighting circuit is only rated at 5amps. Am I ok to replace the 5amp MCB with a 10amp in order to cope with the circuits max demand ? i.e will the 1.5mm cable withstand such current draw ?
