Hi, there my name is Joe a student at Sheffield Hallam University. For my final year reach project me and my peers are working with a UK DIY manufacturer to conduct market research on peoples DIY preferences. Given you clicked on this question you seem to know your stuff so we want to hear from you! Please share your views on wall filler here: https://bit.ly/DIYsurvey2026 it should only take 5 minutes.

This survey provides the opportunity to help shape the future of DIY products in the UK. It takes 5 minutes to fill in and would help us massively!

Not a great survey. There are lots of different fillers for lots of different reasons. Do I want a filler that dries in less than 30 minutes? Answer: it depends on the job I'm doing. Do I want a premixed or a powder filler? Answer: it depends on the job I'm doing. Do I want a filler that works for holes deeper than 10mm? Answer: it depends on the job I'm doing. I have three or four open tubs of filler right now, for different purposes. It's impossible to say which of these features is more or less important.

There is also a "why do you DIY?" question which bundles "to save money" and "because I distrust professionals" into the same option.

And why can I only choose 3 retailers? If I regularly buy from ScrewFix, Wickes, a local independent and eBay, I need to choose one to not select. Yet the next question - where do you go for advice - lets me choose as many as I want.

Thanks for taking the time to complete the survey and provide feedback – I appreciate it. I’ve clarified the wording of the option you mentioned to make it clearer for future respondents.

The survey aims to understand attitudes and experiences among DIYers. Some questions simplify situations so responses can be analysed statistically, but all feedback is welcome. There is also space at the end of the survey if anyone would like to share more detailed thoughts or experiences.

Thanks again for your input.
