Hi, everything had been OK for several years until we recently went away on holiday. Prior to leaving we drained all the water pipes feeding taps and toilets. On return we have had a banging noise from the hot water tap in our kitchen, which is the first tap in the hot water pipework fed by the boiler. The tap is only 1.5 m away from the boiler . None of the other taps in the house have been affected. Whenever this hot water tap is partially opened there is a continuous banging noise which only stops when we close the tap or open it further. If I open the main stopcock to increase the pressure the banging gets louder. If the tap is turned on so that it is approx half to fully open the banging stops immediately.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem is likley to be and how to resolve it? Thanks for any help you may able to offer
