Hi there, I'm going to be refitting the bathroom in a less modern style, so am going to use a mable topped washstand in place of our uber modern mosaic basin unit.

I'd kind of like to have a bowl standing proud rather than sunk in, so I was wondering what your technical brains came up with when I suggested plumbing one of these (kind of thing) as the hand basin?

obviously I'd take the jug out!

Now, I't have to be secured well to the marble (?), and carefull cutting would be required for waste and overflow, but would the ceramic stand up to daily use?

How could I acheive all that?

I know how you people like a problem to ponder!

THanks

Tom

I'm no plumber but I do brush my teeth on occasioin and when I do, I like to lean on the sink. I also drop things in the sink when I am tired and confused in the moring. I have to say I reckon the bowl could chip or worse, break, very easily if used daily. Dropping a full can of shaving foam or something like that on the edge could do annoying damage.

A nice but idea but rather impracticable I think; making the necessary cut outs for the waste & overflow let alone fixing the necessary hardware could probably see you through several antique bowls before your finished!

You should also think a little about implications if/when you come to sell up! It rather depends on the property you have but the “chintzy” look is not everyone’s cup of Earl Grey & minimalist simplicity has definitely taken over in the last couple of years.
