I have a BAXI SOLO 2 60 RS Boiler.
It is about 10-12 years old
separate heating and hot water and open F and E tank

No leaks and all radiators heat evenly and quickly as does hot water

Early last winter it became noisy, even the odd banging type noise.

I added some X400 and all started to quieten down. It was flushed and warmed up 3 times and then refilled with inhibitor added.

Since then it seems to me that the boiler now "chuffs".........

House is up for sale and I want to avoid any major expense (given the terrible price we will have to sell for!!!!!)

am I being paranoid?
should I reapply X400?
should I make sure I sell in the summer(joke - or is it?)
Also to add to my woes they want to change my meter - is this when the bloody thing gets condemned?

any/all help gratefully recieved[/b]

Could be the heat exchanger dripping onto the burner, get the boiler inspected and this will be picked up if it's the case. Adding more X400 might make it worse.

Changing your meter won't affect the boiler unless the boiler has a gas leak, they won't condemn it, its unlikely they'll even look at it

thanks for the reply....

as I said I really do not want to spend any money on the house....

do you mean that there may be a leak inside the boiler???

don`t like the sound of that!

what symptoms should I be looking for?

there is no steam coming out of the flue

Your boiler sounds like it's "kettling" due to a scaled/restricted main heat exchanger. This noise - does it sound like a heating kettle when the boiler is on?

The chuffing noise will most likely be the auto air vent letting out the air from the system after it was re-filled.

There was a problem with certain Solo's being noisy some years ago, probably a bit earlier than yours was fitted - although it is feasible that your boiler was a couple of years old on installation. They (heat exchangers) were changed under warranty.

Instead of x400 stick x200 in or fernox boiler silencer in

difficult to describe but yes I suppose so, I have been tying off the ball cock and checking levels in FandE tank - no noticeable loss as yet
if you are correct what should be done?
