My Potterton profile gas boiler often fires up when all the controls are switched to off this usually happens in the middle of the night
The only way to turn it off is to turn the temperature control on the boiler to zero.
Any ideas as to the fault?

More likely to be a controls problem!

Is there a frost stat?

Is it in the loft or garage?

If not then might be a faulty motor valve switch but unlikely with that senario.

Hi Tony

The boiler is in a cupboard in the kitchen, don’t know if there is a frost stat, where do I look?

It really needs checking to see if there is a call for heat during the unexpected firing.

I have had the plumber who installed the boiler over but he cannot find a fault, problem is that it often fires up in the middle of the night or other times unexpectedly

I would say you need a boiler engineer rather than a plumber.

Just because he fitted the boiler it does not mean that he is very good at diagnosing faults.
