I posted a while back about this but things have gotten worse so would like some advice.

We have a Glow worm swift flow with no programmable or thermostat controls. No power the heating its simply an on/off switch.

A while ago the heating and hot water stopped working. When the on switch was presses you just heard a buzzing rather than a 'vvrruumm' kind of noise. (sorry for the wording). We did call an engineer out but the day he came it was working fine and he said he could not diagnose a fault as all parts were working. It has been going off an on for some time now. so we have put off getting an engineer until its completely gone. Now.

Yesterday it was making a whistling sound very faintly but heard over the house. I believe this is to do with kettling.

Today the pilot light has gone off, i can light it but seconds later it goes off again.

I have also bled the same radiator a couple of times in the the spane of weeks indicating air getting in and have also needed to up the presssure 4 or 5 times a year as its lost pressure.
My general thoughts are its completely knackered but cant afford a new one.
I heard by filling up and upping the pressure can fill the system with sludge which can cause the whistling noise. Is it possible that sludge is the problem or can anyone else offer some advice before i have to call the engineer.

PS. If pilot light out does gas still leak? what should i do if so.

Thanks

Thought this at first but the fan seemed fine. Will take another look to see if its still working or not.

hi if the pilot is going out after a couple of seconds its more than likely the flame failure device burnt out , but its not a d i y job as you will have to remove the combusttion chamber cover,
Thats the first thing to check out most engineers can test it without removing it with a special tool
If thats ok then its the gas valve gone,
the fan runs at slow speed to keep the air inside the chamber for the pilot light to stay alight overnight and when not in use
these boilers use a bythermic heat exhanger so do not use the pump for the hot water side only the heating, so it should be easy to check it out on the water only once you have got the pilot lit,
as far as gas coming out when the pilot is out that all depends whether the flame failure device is working ok??? its all part of a standard service check ?? so my advice is to pay for a gas safe engineer to sort it for you its not worth the risk
