I was replacing basin taps and when connecting the cold supply to the new tap, I overtightened the nut and broke it. Can I replace it without cutting out the plastic pipe and jointing it?

Sounds like a plastic hand-tighten nut on a push-fit tap conn.
If so, the answer is no.

Picture would help.
