I've got 4 reclaimed cast iron fireplaces to prep & fit to my house. (I think they will all be decorative not working fires)

they are in varied conditions, some rusty, others more or less perfect.

I was thinking i'd get a wire brush end for my power drill (and a hand held) & buff them all back to remove any flakes of paint & surface rust (they are only surface rusted from being outside a few weeks)

- Should I rub back the inside face too... just for belt & braces?

- Do I need to prime them first? (If so any good primers?)

- I'd like 3 matt black 1 white, should I use normal matt gloss or special fire paint? (any recommendations)

I'm guessing i'll do 1 coat then fit them & touch up any marks from fitting / skimming with a final coat.

Thoughts? Am I heading int he right direction?

:)
