Central heating bypass valve installation

I recently had a warranty fault with a Worcester boiler. When the engineer came to repair it, he noted that it had been installed wrong in 2 aspects:

:: The pump was connected to the wiring centre, not the boiler. This prevented it from doing its over-run
:: The system has no bypass - I presume this is related to the above

Regarding the bypass valve, I understand that this should be installed between the flow and return. The pump is installed on the return - should the return side of the bypass valve be installed boiler side or radiator side of the pump?

Are there any other considerations here?

It would be normal to have the pump on the flow followed by the bypass followed by the motorised valve(s). Given that the system was installed without a bypass or pump overun, it would appear that the installer didn't have much of a clue as to what he was doing. It may be worth getting the system inspected and corrected to ensure safe and correct operation

Thanks @Elkato531. I spoke to Worcester this morning and checked on the pump point. They said that the pump is OK to be installed on the return as long as its a pressurized system as there's less chance of it pulling air into the system, as there would be with an open vented system. I'll look at getting someone round to install a bypass.

Worcester seem to be getting more fussy about installations.

I went to add a mag filter to a Worcester combi and they also wanted to have a shock arrester fitted to the cold feed.

Pity they don't concentrate more on their boiler design & manufacturing. Their boilers are a pile of plastic poo in my view. With part of the boiler gas train being fragile plastic, I don't understand how that complies with the gas regs???!!!
