Hi all, I need help on some issues fitting the new shower in our bathroom re-firb. I have searched but am still unsure :)

Firstly do I really need a twin pump, we have a conventional heating system with a hot tank in the loft and of course the header tank and cold storage tank up there too. From the proposed height of the shower head I havea head of approx 2.0 m to the surrey take off on top of the hot tank and approx 3m to the bottom of the cold storage tank. Should this give enough pressure assuming all pipework is 22mm to within 1m of the mixer valve?

My initial thoughts were to leave provision for a twin pump (ie flexy pipes and full flow isolators) when installing the pipe runs to enable fitting of the pump at a later stage or should I just go for it and fit one regardless.

Secondly do I need to fully drain the hot tank to fit the surrey valve or will partially do?

Thanks in anticipation

m.

I would fit a pump if you want a decent shower.

You need a twin in order to pump both the hot and the cold.

You can fit the Surrey flange by partially draining down. Shut off the cold feed to the cylinder and open the downstairs hot tap. Wrap a towel round the connection at the top of the cylinder and undo the nut when the tap has stopped dripping and the towel will be enough to soak up any water left at the top of cylinder. Take out the pipe and then remove the male iron from the cylinder and replace with the Surrey flange. Make sure you wrap the thread with ptfe tape. Wrapping in the same directions as the thread so that when you tighten into place it doesn't undo the tape. Connect the top connection from flange to your vent. Come out the side connection and tee off to your pump and reconnect to the hot water pipework.
Connect the cold and enjoy a nice shower.
