Changeover to commercial

i did the CODNCO and it was probably the hardest paper i've ever done in my life.

interesting

the domestic acs are bloody easy though so at least it would be a challenge

what experience did they expect you to prove you had?

cool - the secretary at the college must have been wrong

i was envisaging a whole world of blagging to get the ticket.

Its hard the vent calcs are a nightmmare, fluing standards are a pain. Testing and purging blows your mind if your maths is not too good. The regs are the easiest bit of the papers.

The theory is always easy its the practical that some times catches you out. if youve never seen or worked on the stuff it can be demanding.

Its aimed as a changeover but experience has got to help.

Its not all that hard.
When I did mine they marked me wrong for some answers, resat and presented. One in particular was marked as wrong again, so I questioned it and two examiners came up with the same answer, this was then put to a third and he got the same. turns out the answer sheet was wrong. was pleased when they offered me LPG for free 8)

Found the same thing recently with one of BPEC's paper.

hmm, well i'm good at maths so if that's the hard bit i'm happy with that.

clf - how were you offered lpg free then eh?

One of the examiners was one of my lectures at college. good to know people at times

Incidently he is now my local kennal inspector, even better

nice :)

I think i might be able to get my lpg free as well.

Which is nice.

Don't know too much about pricing commercial stuff. Can i take it that you can charge more than domestic?

Just done conversion and main non-domestic & catering elements.
There's no maths harder than multiplication and division!
But to be brutally honest, that's too much for some guys, so it's aimed appropriately. Do you have to think about how to get Journey Time, given Distance and Speed?

Worth putting the other side of the coin here I think. My background's more academic than some, so found it was all very simple stuff. It depends if it's your thing or not. I was out one day at 11, though some guys with 20 years experience, retaking it, didn't get finished that day.
I had no indy experience , but did the "training" (joke, like "here's a workbook, go through it") for retakers. Didn't seem to matter.
I did TCP1 instead of the TCP1A I'd booked cos that's what they had other guys doing.
I think I got about 3 questions wrong overall, though some were guesses.
It's (nearly) all in the stuff they give you, there's no silly looking up laws.

Better get some work to pay for it now. I intend to do the designing and paper bit. Not much good with a pipe bender, those other guys would p*ss all over me at that!

I did these - this is from a website I quoted recently here, have a look for it. (Try pasting this into Word)

Chris

Do you mind telling us where you did it?

One of my guys is renewing his industrial/LPG modules and it's taking weeks and weeks and about £8K.... Most training centres in the South couldn't do all his modules and we've had to drop some.

try Develop at Derby they do it all therir timetable is the same as what chris has done.

just to clear up a point with regards the difference between TPCP1 and TPCP1a, it is not volume but pressure

TPCP1a is for low pressure installations up to 75MB.

TCPD1 is for an MOP not exceeding 16bar,
This GSA is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of Pneumatic strength testing, tightness testing & direct purging of any section(s) of pipework including appliance/plant pipework.
