I installed a central heating system some years ago for a client which has never worked very well and having tried all the usual methods to get decent circulation I realised that, because it is small cottage with no attic space there is not much head. If I pressurise the system that is probably the solution. Good idea?

It is very rare in this day and age I see an open system for heating applications.

The hydronic systems have either an expansion tank or a diaphram type bladder tank to take up for the expansion and contraction of the hot water.

One can play a lot of games with a hot water heating system more so then steam.

Check out X trol tanks or B&G web site

An American; Bell & Gossett and X-trol aren't available in the UK, there are a lot of F&E tanks in UK lofts and no-one here uses steam heating.

You'd ned to ensure the boiler is suitable for use on a sealed system (manual re-set high-limit thermostat, safety valve, etc). RWc.co.uk do conversion kits for suitable boilers.

Shame you blokes dont use steam in some applications as it does give many advantages like one pipe systems, much less working pressures and a host of other factors

What make/model of boiler is it you fitted?

What head have you got on the F&E tank?
