Hi,
I am looking to open up our timber frame wall between the lounge and dining room to fit glazed double doors and am looking for advice on how to proceed. I think the wall will be supporting the roof trusses above (timber framed bungalow) as they are running accross the wall which is in the middle of the trusses above.
If this is the case...
1. would I require a building warrant?
2. how do you go about supporting the roof above, would there be a headerpeice which would act like a rsj or concrete lintel in a traditional wall?
3. If this is required how do you spec the size? will I need to employ a structural engineer?
I am fairly competent at joinery work but due to the nature of this job I may consider calling someone in.
Thanks,
Dale.
